Tencent Hy Translate
Privacy Policy
Last modified: August 2026
Thank you for using our products and services! We respect your concerns about privacy and appreciate your trust and confidence in us. This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) applies to the Tencent Hy Translate application (the “App”), an AI-powered translation service that supports text translation, speech translation, image (OCR) translation, offline translation and related features (the "Service"). If you have any questions about anything in this Privacy Policy, or want to exercise any rights you may have, our contact information can be found in Section 7 (Contact). For the purpose of data protection laws, the data controller of your personal information in relation to the Service is OriGen Tech Pte. Ltd.
Here is a summary of the information contained in this Privacy Policy. You can find more detail in the corresponding sections below.
| Question | Summary |
|---|---|
| What information do we need to be able to provide the Service? | The App does not require you to register or log in, and does not create an account for you. To provide translation we process the content you actively submit — the text you type or paste, the audio you record, and the images you capture or upload for OCR translation — together with the resulting recognition and translation outputs. To keep the Service stable and secure, we also process anonymous identifiers, basic device and network information, product-interaction events and crash diagnostics. The App uses anonymous identifiers — a deviceId randomly generated on your device and persisted in the iOS Keychain, which is used to obtain an anonymous session through an anonymous login interface; our servers then derive or associate the userId / uid/aid from it — none of which is tied to your real-world identity. These identifiers are stored both on your device and on our servers, and different retention periods apply depending on where they are stored (see Section 5). We do not collect hardware-level device identifiers or device fingerprints, such as IDFA, IDFV or QIMEI. |
| How will we use your information? | We use the content you submit solely to deliver the translation function you request (text, speech, real-time speech, conversation and image/OCR translation). We use anonymous identifiers, device and network information, interaction events and crash diagnostics to operate, troubleshoot, secure and improve the Service. We do not use your translation inputs, outputs, audio or images to train, fine-tune or evaluate our models. |
| Who do we share your information with? | We do not share your information with independent third-party businesses for their own purposes. Text and real-time translation are provided by our self-developed translation model; online speech recognition (ASR) and speech synthesis (TTS) are provided by Tencent Cloud International Pte. Ltd. Image/OCR recognition is performed by a server-side open-source OCR model that we deploy and run on our own servers; your images are not sent to any external third party for its own purposes. Our operations and engineering team in Mainland China may access server-side logs and troubleshooting data located in Singapore to maintain the Service. The in-app feedback questionnaire is entirely optional. Only if you voluntarily choose to complete it will your email address, comments, and any image you choose to upload be processed by the same provider, Tencent Cloud International Pte. Ltd., through its WeSurvey service on servers located in Singapore, solely to handle your feedback. If you do not complete the questionnaire, none of your information is transferred to Singapore. |
| Where do we process your information? | All online processing for the Service takes place on servers located in Singapore. Server-side data may be accessed by our operations team located in Mainland China for maintenance purposes. Translation records that you actively save through the Service may be synced to and stored on our servers in Singapore; your locally stored phrasebook/memory remains only on your device. Separately, if — and only if — you voluntarily complete the optional in-app feedback questionnaire, the email address ,comments and image you provide are processed on servers located in Singapore. |
| How long do we keep your information? | Content actively submitted for online processing is cached on the model/API servers for 30 days from the date of generation and then automatically deleted or overwritten. Translation records that you actively save are retained on our servers for 1 year from the date of generation; if you delete a record within the App, it is physically removed within 60 days. Anonymous identifiers are retained for different periods depending on where they are stored: up to 60 days in our anonymous-session store, and for the applicable log-retention period where they appear in system logs. Product-analytics, crash, operational and security logs are kept for 180 days; troubleshooting logs that may contain your translation content are kept for 30 days. If you choose to complete the optional in-app feedback questionnaire, the email address, any comments and any image you provide are processed through Tencent Cloud International Pte. Ltd. on servers in Singapore and kept for 90 days. On-device history stays until you delete it, clear the App data or uninstall the App. |
| How can I exercise my rights over my information? | Depending on where you are, you may have rights such as access, correction, deletion, restriction of, or objection to processing. Because most content is processed on your device or cached only briefly, you can exercise many of these rights directly within the App. See Section 6 (Your Rights). |
| How will we notify you of changes? | We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the version of this Privacy Policy available within the App, with the "Last updated" date revised accordingly. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed of how we protect your information. |
This Privacy Policy explains when, how and why we process your personal information in connection with the Tencent Hy Translate App, and sets out your choices and rights in relation to that information. Please read it carefully — it will allow you to understand how we collect and use your information, and how you can control it. If you do not agree to the processing of your personal information in the way this Privacy Policy describes, please do not provide your information when requested and stop using the Service. By using the Service you are acknowledging how we process your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy.
For the purpose of data protection laws, the data controller of your personal information in relation to the Service is OriGen Tech Pte. Ltd. If you have any questions about anything in this Privacy Policy, or want to exercise any rights you may have, our contact information can be found in Section 7 (Contact).
The Service is a general-purpose translation tool and is not directed at children. The App does not require an account and does not ask for your age or date of birth. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. You should use the Service only if you meet the minimum age for the processing of personal information in your country or region.
If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete such information without undue delay.
This section provides more detail on the types of personal information we process, and why. Where applicable, it also identifies the legal basis under which we process your data. The App does not offer registration, login, in-app chat, user-generated content, marketing emails, sweepstakes, advertising attribution or payment functions, and we therefore do not process personal information for those purposes.
The following information is processed only when you actively use the relevant translation feature. Where the feature can run offline, the relevant content is processed locally on your device and is not uploaded to any server.
| Personal Information | Use | Legal Basis (where applicable) |
|---|---|---|
| Text translation: the text you type or paste, the translation result. | We use this information to provide the text translation you request. When you are online, your text is processed by our self-developed translation model (Hy-MT2) to generate the translation. When you are offline or on a weak network, the translation is performed on your device using our on-device Hy translation model, and your text does not leave your device. The App reads your clipboard only when you tap "paste", and never automatically on launch or in the background. |
Necessary to perform our contract with you to provide the translation you request. |
| Speech synthesis (TTS): the text you submit and the synthesized audio. | We use this information to read text aloud for you. When you are online, your text is processed by Tencent Cloud's text-to-speech service to generate audio. When you are offline, audio is synthesized on your device using iOS's native on-device speech synthesis capability, and your text and the synthesized audio remain on your device. |
Necessary to perform our contract with you. |
| Speech recognition (ASR): the audio you submit and the recognized text. | We use this information to convert your speech into text. When you are online, your audio is processed by Tencent Cloud's speech recognition service to generate the recognized text. When you are offline, speech recognition is performed on your device using iOS's native on-device speech recognition capability, and your audio and the recognized text remain on your device. |
Necessary to perform our contract with you. |
| Real‑time speech translation: the audio you submit, the recognized text and the translated text. | We use this information to recognize your speech and translate it into your chosen language. When you are online, your audio is processed by Tencent Cloud's speech recognition service to generate the recognized text, and the recognized text is then processed by our self-developed translation model to generate the translated text. When you are offline, speech recognition and translation are performed entirely on your device using iOS's native on-device speech recognition and translation capabilities, and your audio, the recognized text, and the translated text remain on your device. |
Necessary to perform our contract with you. |
| Conversation real‑time translation: each participant's audio, the recognized text, the translated text and the translated audio. | We use this information to recognize each participant's speech, translate it, and provide spoken playback of the translation so that the parties can converse across languages. When you are online, each participant's audio is processed by Tencent Cloud's speech recognition service, the recognized text is translated by our self-developed translation model (Hy-MT2), and Tencent Cloud's text-to-speech service may be used to generate translated audio. When you are offline, translation is performed using an on-device local translation model, and speech recognition and speech synthesis are performed using iOS's native on-device ASR and TTS capabilities. In offline mode, each participant's audio, the recognized text, the translated text, and the translated audio remain on your device and are not uploaded to our servers or Apple's cloud services. |
Necessary to perform our contract with you. |
| Image (OCR) translation: the image you capture or upload, the OCR‑recognized text and the generated translated image. | We use this information to recognize the text contained in your image and translate it into your chosen language. This feature is processed online by a server-side open-source OCR model together with our self-developed translation model, and is not available offline. |
Necessary to perform our contract with you. |
| Microphone audio / clipboard content | We capture microphone audio only after you actively tap to record, and we show a recording prompt when recording is in process; the App does not record in the background. We read your clipboard only after you actively tap "paste". This content is used solely to deliver the feature you requested and is never written into our analytics, logs, crash reports or other monitoring systems. |
Necessary to perform our contract with you. |
To analyse product usage, troubleshoot issues and safeguard the security and availability of the Service, we process the information set out below. This telemetry and log data is keyed to a client‑generated anonymous identifier so that diagnostic events belonging to the same user can be correlated across our monitoring components. This identifier is not a registration or login account.
| Personal Information | Use | Legal Basis (where applicable) |
|---|---|---|
| Online identifiers: The deviceId is a random string generated on your device and persisted in the iOS Keychain. When you use the online Service, the deviceId is used to obtain an anonymous session through an anonymous login interface, and our servers derive or associate the userId / uid / aid from it. | We use the client-generated deviceId, together with the userId / uid derived or associated on our servers, to maintain an anonymous service state, support service requests, and distinguish between different anonymous users or different installations. We use the aid to correlate telemetry and diagnostic events, troubleshoot issues, and monitor App performance, including tracking App crashes, network request failures, slow page loads, and interface errors. |
It is in our legitimate interest to maintain, secure and improve the Service |
| Device information: device brand and model, operating system version, screen resolution, App version and channel. | We use this information for quality monitoring, stability analysis, version updates and performance optimization. | It is in our legitimate interest to maintain and improve the security, stability and performance of the Service |
| Network information: network availability and network type. | We use this information to determine your online or offline status and to run the translation and telemetry flow reliably. | It is in our legitimate interest to operate the Service reliably |
| Product-interaction data: page, click and impression, language, model, offline flag, elapsed time and local-inference timing, which are recorded as controlled enumerations and counters without your text, audio, image, OCR text or prompt content. | We use this information for product statistics, quality analysis and service optimization. | It is in our legitimate interest to understand how the Service is used and to improve our Service |
| Crash and diagnostics data: crash and error stacks, error messages, and API path, status and duration. Crash and diagnostic logs do not contain your translation text, output, audio, image, OCR text or prompts. | We use this information to detect, diagnose and fix crashes and errors. | It is in our legitimate interest to maintain the stability and security of the Service |
| User feedback (Optional): your email address, any free-text comments you enter, and any image you choose to upload, which may occasionally contain personal information you choose to include. We remind you within the questionnaire not to upload images containing personal information. | We use this information to follow up on your feedback and to improve the Service. Free-text commentsand uploaded images are used only for product-improvement analysis, are not structured, and are not linked to any identifier for profiling. | Consent. Taking part in the questionnaire is optional; we will only process user feedback if you voluntarily complete and consent to our processing of the information you provide. |
We do not use the content you submit for translation (including your input text, translation outputs, audio, OCR images or prompts) for model training, fine-tuning or quality evaluation.
Where your information is stored and processed. Where you use the online features (as indicated in Section 2), we may transfer data outside the location in which you are based, for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Our servers for the online features are located in Singapore. All translation functions — including text translation, speech recognition (ASR), speech synthesis (TTS), real-time and conversation translation, and image/OCR translation — are processed on our servers in Singapore.The only exception is the optional in-app feedback questionnaire: if you voluntarily choose to complete it, the email address, comments and imageyou provide are processed byTencent Cloud International Pte. Ltd. on servers located in Singapore. If you do not complete the questionnaire, no data is transferred to Singapore. Our operations and engineering team located in Mainland China may access server-side run logs, troubleshooting caches and minimized data located in Singapore to perform troubleshooting, security maintenance and service-stability assurance.
Who we share your information with. We only involve the following recipients, and only to the extent necessary to provide the Service:
Tencent Cloud International Pte. Ltd.,which performs the online speech-recognition (ASR) and speech-synthesis (TTS) that you request on servers located in Singapore.
Our operations and engineering team in Mainland China, which accesses server-side logs and troubleshooting data for maintenance.
Tencent Cloud International Pte. Ltd. — the same intra-group provider that performs the online ASR/TTS described above — also delivers the in-app user-feedback questionnaire (WeSurvey) and processes the feedback on servers located in Singapore, engaged only if you voluntarily choose to provide user feedback.If you choose to take part, you may provide any of the following, all of which are optional: your email address (used to follow up on your feedback if you choose to provide it), any comments you enter in a free-text box, and any image you choose to upload.Taking part in the questionnaire is entirely optional and is not required to use the Service or any translation feature. This is the only circumstance in which your information is transferred to Singapore.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with independent third‑party businesses for their own purposes.
We apply information-security and access-control measures, including transmission encryption, least-privilege access, log-access controls and operation auditing, together with automatic deletion/overwrite mechanisms for server-side caches. On-device translation history and other local records are stored in the App’s local storage area and are managed and deleted by you. Translation records you save may also be synced to our servers in Singapore; see Section 5 for the retention period applicable to such server-side records.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we implement and maintain reasonable measures designed to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee that information transmitted through the Service or via the internet will be completely secure.
5. Data Retention
We do not keep your personal information for longer than is necessary to fulfil the relevant purposes described above, unless we are required or permitted to retain it for a longer period under applicable law. Because the App does not require registration or login, there is no account-lifecycle retention period and no account-deletion process.
For further details on how long we keep your personal information, please refer to the retention periods set out below.
| Personal Information | Retention Policy |
|---|---|
| Content submitted for online processing, including text, audio, images, recognition outputs and translation outputs. | Cached on the relevant model or API servers in Singapore for 30 days from the date of generation, then automatically deleted or overwritten. This data is not used for model training, fine-tuning or evaluation. |
| Server-side translation history that you actively save and sync to our backend. | Stored on our servers in Singapore and retained for 1 year from the date of generation. If you delete a record within the App, it is marked for deletion and physically removed within 60 days. Upon expiry, records are automatically deleted, overwritten or irreversibly anonymized. |
| On-device history and locally stored identifiers, including translation history, phrasebook/memory, playback records. | Stored only on your device until you delete the relevant data, clear App data, uninstall the App, or the operating system clears local storage. |
| Anonymous identifiers stored on your device (deviceId in the iOS Keychain; aid in the App's local storage). | The aid is regenerated when you uninstall and reinstall the App. The deviceId is retained in the iOS Keychain until you reset the identifier through the App, reset your device, submit a deletion request to us, or the Service no longer requires it. Due to iOS Keychain behaviour, uninstalling and reinstalling the App may not remove the deviceId from your device. |
| Anonymous identifiers and session tokens stored in our anonymous-session store (deviceId, userId / uid, session tokens). | Retained on our servers in Singapore for up to 60 days from the date of generation, after which they are automatically rotated or deleted. They are also deleted when you reset the identifier, submit a deletion request, or when the Service no longer requires them. |
| Product-interaction logs, crash logs, operational logs and security logs (which may contain anonymous identifiers such as deviceId, userId / uid and aid, but do not contain your translation content). | Retained on our servers in Singapore for 180 days from the date of generation, then automatically deleted, overwritten or irreversibly anonymized. |
| Troubleshooting logs that may contain your translation content (including prompts, translation outputs and back-end identifiers). | Retained on our servers in Singapore for 30 days from the date of generation, then automatically deleted or irreversibly anonymized. Access is strictly limited to short-term fault diagnosis under approval and audit controls. |
| User-feedback questionnaire data, including your email address, any image you upload and free-text comments. | Processed by WeSurvey, the survey platform operated by Tencent Cloud International Pte. Ltd., on servers located in Singapore, only if you voluntarily complete the optional questionnaire. Retained for 90 days from the date of submission, then automatically deleted. |
Some jurisdictions' laws grant specific rights to users of the Service. Because the App has no account and much of your content is processed on your device or cached only briefly, you can exercise many of these rights directly within the App (for example, by deleting on-device history or clearing App data).
If you have submitted feedback through the in-app questionnaire, you may contact us to access or delete the email address, comments and any image you provided.
If you believe we hold other personal information about you or would like to exercise your rights in accordance with applicable laws, please contact us as set out in Section 7 (Contact). These may include:
Access — You may have the right to access the personal information we process about you, how we use it, and who we share it with.
Portability — You may have the right to receive a copy of certain personal information we process about you. We will provide further information about transferring this data if you make such a request.
Correction — You may have the right to correct personal information we hold that is inaccurate.
Erasure — You may delete on-device history and locally stored data directly in the App, or by clearing App data. Because the deviceId is stored in the iOS Keychain, uninstalling and reinstalling the App may not remove it from your device; to have the deviceId and the server-side records associated with it removed, please submit a deletion request as set out in Section 7 (Contact). If you submit a request to access or delete server-side data, we will erase the relevant records to the extent they can be identified and located through applicable anonymous identifiers. Records that cannot be linked to you will be deleted, overwritten or anonymized according to the retention periods described in Section 5.
Restriction of Processing— You may have the right to require that we stop processing the personal information we hold about you (other than for storage purposes in certain circumstances).
Objection — You may have the right to object to our processing of your personal information that is based on our legitimate interests, such as information as described in Section 2.2.
You can reach us to submit data subject rights requests and any questions or concerns related to data privacy using the contact details below. We will make every effort to address your request as quickly as possible. This does not affect your right to file a complaint with a data protection authority in your region if you believe we have violated data protection laws.

Some jurisdictions’ laws contain additional terms for users of the Service, set out in this section.
If you are a user located in one of the jurisdictions below (which reflect the Service’s launch regions), the terms under the name of your jurisdiction apply to you in addition to the terms above.
This section applies to California residents covered by the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA”). In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers, including anonymous identifiers such as userId / uid, aid and a randomly generated deviceId; internet or other electronic network activity information, including product-interaction events, crash and diagnostic logs, and device and network information; and the content you actively submit for translation, including text, audio and images, together with the recognition and translation outputs; and, if you voluntarily complete the in-app feedback questionnaire, the email address, comments and any image you provide. We have not sold or shared personal information within the meaning of the CCPA, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond providing the Service you request. Subject to the CCPA’s exceptions, you have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising your rights. To exercise your rights, contact us as set out in Section 7 (Contact).
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the rights listed below in relation to information that we have collected about you. However, these rights are not absolute, and in certain cases, we may decline your request as permitted by law.
Right to Access/Know. Request we confirm whether we process information about you and give you access to that information. You may also request to receive that information in a portable and, to the extent technically feasible, readily usable format that allows you to transmit the information to another business without impediment. If you are a California resident, you may request the following information about our collection, use and disclosure of your information:
the categories of personal information about you that we collected;
the categories of sources from which the personal information was collected;
the business or commercial purposes for collecting personal information about you;
the categories of third parties to whom we disclosed personal information about you and the categories of personal information that was disclosed (if applicable) and the purpose for disclosing the personal information about you; and
the specific pieces of personal information we collected about you;
Request to Delete. Request we delete personal information we collected about you;
Request to Correct. Request we correct inaccurate personal information that we maintain about you;
Right to Non-Discrimination. Be free from unlawful discrimination for exercising your rights including providing a different level or quality of services or denying goods or services to you when you exercise your rights under the US State Laws.
To exercise your rights, please contact us as set out in Section 7 (Contact). We may take steps to verify your identity before complying with your request to protect your privacy and security, and may decline your request if we are unable to verify your identity. Because the App does not require an account and we hold only anonymous identifiers, we may be unable to associate a request with the data on a specific device; where necessary, we may ask you to provide information from within the App to help us locate the relevant data.
Depending on where you live, you may exercise these rights yourself or you may also designate an authorized agent to make these requests on your behalf. In order for us to process the request, you must provide the authorized agent with signed written permission. We reserve the request to require the agent to verify their own identity and to confirm directly with you that you have provided the authorized agent permission to submit the request.
In addition, where applicable, we will provide you with more information about our appeal process. When you submit a request or launch an appeal, we will limit our collection of your information to only what is necessary to securely fulfil your request or process your appeal. We will not require you or your authorized agent to pay a fee for the verification of your request or appeal.
If you have questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy, please contact us as set out in the Section 7 (Contact).
By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your personal information to third parties (if any), which may include the cross-border transfer of your information to the jurisdictions specified in Section 3 — in particular, to our servers in Singapore, and to be accessed by our operations team in Mainland China. If you voluntarily choose to complete the optional in-app feedback questionnaire, the email address and comments you provide are additionally transferred to servers located in Singapore.
You may request us to notify you about the purposes of use of, to disclose, to make any correction to, to discontinue the use or provision of, and/or to delete any and all of your personal information which is stored by us, to the extent provided by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) of Japan. When you wish to make such requests, please contact us as set out in Section 7 (Contact).
